What makes HGK Motorsport so special is not only that it prepare its own cars, but how the cars are prepared.
Anyone following Formula Drift this season will likely be familiar with the name Kristaps Bluss, HGK’s lead driver and the ‘K’ in the company name. Whilst he’s a newcomer to the FD ranks, Kristaps has being blowing away the competition in Europe and Russia for a few years now.
Kristap’s 850hp E46 will likely attest to the quality of HGK Motorsports’s builds. Equipped with an 850 bhp RHS 466 LS7 prepared by Mast Motorssports attached to a 4 speed dogbox transmission, the HGK E46 is at the pinnacle of modern drifting. HGK’s E46 is claimed by many to be the fastest drift car ever built.
The HGK cars are closer in quality to the likes of top-end GT cars and are probably the best prepared drift cars in the world. It’s no wonder then that HGK is in such demand to create customer cars for clients all around the globe.
HGK Motorsport is a small operation with a huge heart. The eight staff are making huge waves from their humble workshop in eastern Europe. They’ve got an amazing attitude too. They haven’t come into the sport shouting from the roof tops, instead they’ve kept their heads down and are working hard to earn their success, much the same as how they’ve built their business.

Chelsea Denofa kicked off the 2016 Formula drift season with a win at Round 1 Long Beach in his 2000 BMW E46 sedan for competition. Featuring a 777-HP turbocharged M52 engine connected to a 4 speed dogbox transmission.
With the combination of the best suspension components and turbo-charged BMW power Chelsea’s car is a fan favorite and is certainly one of the most entertaining cars in the FD field.

World Champion Drifter and professional fun-haver Vaughn Gittin Jr. is best known for his aggressive, foot-to-the-floor, big-smoke driving style from behind the wheel of arguably the most recognizable cars in the sport: the Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR
2016 was Gittin’s first season with his newly built 900-hp Mustang RTR, and his second victory in four 2016 rounds. He has been competing in Formula Drift with a Ford Mustang since 2005, and currently sits first in the Drivers’ Championship hunt.

Sergy Kabargin is the second HGK built car to come from Eastern Europe to Formula Drift this season.
Representing HGK and Evil Empire in Formula D Pro2 is Sergei Kabargin, in the 800hp HGK Corvette. The Corvette is a car that HGK only recently finished, but I think that an attraction has already taken hold. Kristaps believes that with every part ready to go on the shelf, HGK could build a fully-prepared Corvette in just three months or half the time a similar-spec BMW would take, including the completely custom front suspension and extra-lock setup. Why? “It’s already a race car,” he says with a smile.

From zero to hero in less than 10 seconds. It did not take more than Tanner Foust’s first run to show the potential that he held in the drifting world with his AEM-built Nissan 350Z.
Advanced Engine Management (or AEM) entered the scene in 2006 with a new 350Z which was built from the ground up in an astounding twelve week period. In it’s second race, Tanner Foust and the brand new AEM 350Z already had claimed their first victory.
The 350Z that AEM acquired was built specifically for drifting competitions. The first step taken was to upgrade the motor, Nissan Nissan ’s popular 3.5 liter V6, with forged components (such as JE pistons/rings, Eagle connecting rods, etc) capable of handling their target horsepower. With the help of two of Garrett’s finest turbos and AEM’s top of the line engine management products, the power is bumped from 250 to 600 wheel hp.
To complete the look of the car, AEM moved to work the exterior. The car is painted with a two-tone between black and Lamborghini yellow, to ensure that the car stands out in the crowd. The car currently uses a Versus bodykit, tagged along with Seiben front fenders and hatch, an addition of a Rotora wing, and a custom rear fender design by MOB Works, the shop who put all of this exterior package together and painted in under three weeks.

You need the Japanese DLC Pack from Kunos (http://store.steampowered.com/app/467980/Assetto_corsa__Japanese_Pack/) to use this car, because it’s using that model.
One of the most important components to any drift car is its suspension. And for this very 370Z, they opted for a set of DG5 coilovers. Kevin Wells, from LS Auto, also did quite a bit of custom suspension work for the car. This custom work gave them more than 50 degrees of steering angle and was accomplished with custom front spindles.
As with all top tier Formula D cars at this point, Forsberg’s 370Z is powered by V8. There’s no bowtie or blue oval to be found here! Instead, the team has stayed true to the Nissan brand and went with a VK56 Titan from a Nissan Titan, using BigStuff3 fuel injection, which was provided to them by Nissan Motorsports USA.
The original 370Z’s body was upgraded to a complete Nismo 370Z body kit. It improves the look of the car ten fold. The hood, doors, trunk, wing, and front fenders are all from Seibon and are made of carbon fiber.

    FD Replicas Nissan Silvia S15

Forrest could be considered the S-chassis king of the American drift scene, and his new car is a testament to his years of experience building and drifting Silvias and their 240SX-badged counterparts. Beginning with his signature green and black livery, the 2015-season S15 has everything we’ve come to expect from a Forrest Wang build.
Long gone are the days when one could build a competitive pro drift car with basic upgrades, and over the off-season Forrest stripped the Silvia down to a bare chassis in preparation for its transformation to legit FD competitor.
As for power, Forrest once again went with a Toyota 2JZ setup with this build. While it might not be the SR20 that originally came in the Silvia’s engine bay, the radical sounding six cylinder stays plenty true to the sport’s Japanese roots, while still making enough power to run with the big boys.
Forrest’s motor was built by Insane Power and Pineapple Tune, and it’s running a full Brian Crower stroker kit that ups displacement to 3.4 liters. The turbo is a single Garrett GTX4294R mounted on a Future Fab turbo manifold. The intake manifold comes from Sleeper Designs, fuel flows through 2,150cc Fuel Injector Clinic injectors and engine management is handled by an AEM Series 2 system.
The result is a solid 900 horsepower, which gives the Silvia enough power to rival any V8-powered machine it might meet on the start line. Its inline six turbo noise should also keep those drifting traditionalists in the crowd quite happy
The boosted Toyota power is sent to the ground through a G-Force GSR 4-speed dogbox to a custom carbon driveshaft, and the differential is a Winters Performance Quick Change unit with upgraded axles.
As for footwork, aside from the chassis prep work at Get Nuts, the car is running Stance GR+ 3-way adjustable coilovers and a full suite of adjustable arms from Wisefab. Braking is handled by 6-piston Wilwoods in the front, twin 4-piston Wilwoods in the rear, and the essential hydraulic e-brake was supplied by ASD.
The livery meanwhile is something that brings to mind drift cars of Japan, with heavy application of ‘Get Nuts Green’ both inside and out the Silvia.

One car that definitely made waves in the United States professional drifting scene is the JIC Magic/Hankook Tires Porsche 993 GT2. This car is being driven in the Formula Drift Series by Northern California’s Tyler McQuarrie, a driving instructor at Infineon Raceway. This was the first-ever Porsche to be used for professional drifting in the United States, and as a result, it made a lot of media headlines when it first came out.
So let’s take a closer look at the car itself. The car’s owner, Jon Kaneda from JIC Magic in Downey California, tells me that the original base car was actually a 1996 European version lightweight 993RS street car that was converted to GT2 specs – this wasn’t built as a race car originally, it actually started life as Jon’s street car!
Inside the cockpit, you’ll notice two Cobra racing seats, Sparco harnesses, and a Momo steering wheel with Works Bell steering wheel hub. This JIC Porsche 993 is strictly business! And achieving JIC’s first podium win at New Jersey, Tyler McQuarrie is handling it!
